Why I’m running
Access to public education and knowledge is a fundamental right. Growing up as a black student in Gresham, Oregon. I experienced firsthand access to education that most other black children hadn’t received. This became prevalent at the age of 15, when I was shocked that the other 2 black kids besides me didn’t know who Coretta Scott King was.
From a very young age; Learning and Imagining were my two main focuses in my world. As long as I can learn and imagine and implement. I could do or be anything. Because of this strong belief I have had since the age of 3. I never stopped learning, asking questions to challenging things, imagining what could be and can be and implementing what I can see in my mind within my own personal world. This is what true living is.
Nowadays many children within our district and within the MESD program are having a hard time creating because they are too busy just surviving… As your next Multnomah Education Service District Board Director for Position 2. I will continue to work with the current board members and union on supporting and improving policies that will provide our staff more resources and support to keep our partnership healthy and our program schools thriving.
In 2021, I organized and rallied my home school community in the centennial school district; with both the support of the teachers and certified and support staff unions, local parent advocates, and collaborative orgs. I was able to beat my 30 year sitting incumbent and during that time I was proud to announce that I passed a budget, and a faculty teachers contract. This was as we were coming out clear from our pandemic that caused more social trauma to the kids than in recent past generations.
If I am elected I will become one of the first public running elected neurodivergent leaders within this state. This is huge as neurodivergent for me because areas like this are really not set up for someone who is both Black, Autistic/ADHD and Chronically ill but technically i am being hit with triple of oppression. But still I rise for the students; so they can dream and create a world that aligns with them.
